Thomas Pierce came from England in 1633 or 1634 with his wife Elizabeth and settled in Charlestown Massachusetts. His wife Elizabeth was admitted to the church January 10, 1634 and he was admitted February 21,1634-35. He was one of twenty-one commissioners appointed September 27,1642 "to see that salt peter heaps were made by the farmers of the colony." He removed to Woburn and was a proprietor there in 1643 and was elected to town offices. His wife Elezabeth was born in England 1595-96. She stated her age as seventy-one in 1667. He died October 7, 1666. His will was dated November 7,1665 aged about eighty-two years. He bequethed to wife Elizabeth, grandchildren Mary Bridge and Elizabeth Jeffs now dwelling with him; to all grandchildren; to Harvard College. The widow deposed the inventory March 22,1666-67, aned seventy-one years.

THOMAS PIERCE, born in England about 1583, was of Charlestown, Mass., and was admitted to the church there Feb. 21, 1634-5, his wife Elizabeth, who was born about 1595, having been admitted Jan. 10, 1634-5. He died Oct. 7, 1666, his wife surviving him. Thomas and Elizabeth Pierce had, besides other children, a daughter Mary, who married Peter Tufts.
SERGT. THOMAS PIERCE, born about 1618, died at Woburn, Mass., Nov. 6, 1683. He married Elizabeth Cole, who died in Woburn, Mar. 5, 1688, daughter of Rice and Arrold Cole. Sergt. Thomas and Elizabeth (Cole) Pierce had 12 children.

Thomas was the immigrant ancestor for our Pierce family. He came from England in 1633/34 with his wife Elizabeth Pierce and settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
He was admitted to Charlestown church 12/21/1634-5. He was made freeman on 5/6/1635.
He owned 87 acres of land in Charlestown in 1638. "Charlestown's Inhabitants," NEHGR, 1977, p. 212 notes that Thomas was literate.
On 9/27/1642, he was appointed as one of 21 commissioners by the General Court "to see that Saltpetre heaps were made by all farmers of the colony."

In the 1638 Charlestown Book Of Possessions, Pierce is listed as having 10 lots: 5 acres in the West End with a dwelling house; 1 acre on the South Meade; 1 other acre in the South Meade; 4 acres in Line Field; 4 cow commons; 5 acres of woods in the Mystic field; 3 acres in the Mystic marshes; 1 acres in Mystic Long Meadow; 15 acres of woods in Mystic Field; and 62 acres at Water Field[2].
ESTATE Thomas' will was dated 6 November 1665 at Cambridge, Middlesex co., MA, when Thomas was aged 82 years, and proved on 22 March 1666/7. He left 20s. to Harvard College and gave legacies to the two grandchildren living with him -- Mary Bridge & Elizabeth Jeffs. The rest, he left to his wife, Elizabeth, for as long as she lived. She was also named his executrix. After Elizabeth's death, all of his grandchildren were to get 10s. each and the rest was to be divided amongst his children. His son, John, was named overseer[2].

MARRIAGE Circa 1612 when Thomas was 29, he married Elizabeth [surname not known], in England[1,4,5,6,7,8,9,3,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19]. Elizabeth was born in England in 1596[1,3]. This birth year is based on the fact that she was aged 71 in 1667. She died sometime after 1667. Since she and Thomas named a daughter "Persis&334;, it is possible that this was her maiden name. Another possibility is that it is a corruption of "Pierce". Regardless, it became a family name for girls. Elizabeth was admitted to the church in Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA on 10d:11m(January):1634/5[3].

3. ii. John PIERCE John was a Mariner from Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA[3]. Apparently, at some point, he removed to London, for he is referred to as "J.P. of London, mariner" in Wyman[3]. In 1648, he bought a house & garden from Grace Smith in Charlestown. In 1655, he sold a house, hay-lot and one-quarter of a cow common to R. Mousal in 1655. The one-quarter cow common had been bought from his sister Persis Pierce Bridges, who was referred to as "widow Bridges, my sister" in the deed. By 1669, he was referred to as "J.P. of Wapping"[3]. John was admitted to the Charlestown Church on 22d:6m(August):1652[3].

THOMAS1 PIERCE, born in England about 1583, was of Charlestown, Mass., and was admitted to the church there Feb. 21, 1634-5, his wife Elizabeth, who was born about 1595, having been admitted Jan. 10, 1634-5. He died Oct. 7, 1666, his wife surviving him. Thomas and Elizabeth Pierce had, besides other children, a daughter‰Mary, who married Peter Tufts.
SERGT. THOMAS2 PIERCE, born about 1618, died at Woburn, Mass., Nov. 6, 1683. He married Elizabeth Cole, who died in Woburn, Mar. 5, 1688, daughter of Rice and Arrold Cole. Sergt. Thomas and Elizabeth (Cole) Pierce had 12 children.
SAMUEL3 PIERCE, born Woburn, Apr. 7, 1656, died in same place July 5, 1721. He married in Woburn, Dec. 9, 1680, Lydia Bacon, who was born Mar. 6, 1656, 1400 died Woburn, Dec. 5, 1717, daughter of Daniel and Mary (Reed) Bacon.
Samuel and Lydia (Bacon) Pierce had 11 children, one child being a daughter Sarah, born Woburn, June 22, 1691, who married Peter Waite.

PIERCE, THOMAS, Charlestown, 1634, freeman, 1635; by wife, Eliz., had‰Abigail, bapt. 1639, unless she were child of another Thomas, as seems not unlikely, for no other is ascribed to this one,‰who died 1666; in his will mentions his age as 82 years, his wife Eliz. 71, son‰John, Randall, Nichols, besides grandch. Mary Bridge and Eliz. Tufts ; and gave legacy to the college.‰His widow, Eliz., mother of‰Mary, wife of Peter Tuffts,‰was perhaps his second wife.
PIERCE, THOMAS, Woburn; 1643, may not improb. seem to be son of preceding, born in Eng., living first at Charlestown, and may have been father of that Abigail; but at W. had John, born 1644, died prob. soon; Thomas, 1645; Eliz. 1646; Joseph, 1648, died soon; Joseph, again; 1649; Stephen, 1651 ; Samuel, 1654, died at two years; Samuel, again, 1656; William, 1658; James, 1659; and Abigail, 1660. He was freeman in 1677 and that year sold land in Charlestown. Thomas,‰father of Stephen, could not be, as the biogr. supposes, the same Thomas that died 1666, aged 83 years.
